Announcing COTE Check, Co-Op Theatre East’s Alternative Theatre Zine!
We love theatre. And you do, too. And even in the glut of media that’s constantly causing ringing in our eyes and making our ears cross, there doesn’t seem to be enough info out there about our beloved art form, especially when it comes to off-Broadway, non-Disney, forward-looking, new, different, exciting theatre.
So, we’re excited to write to you today to invite you to contribute to COTE Check, a new project of Co-Op Theatre East!
Our intent with COTE Check is to offer a free, fun, alternative source of commentary and news on the state of theatre in New York. In the tradition of some of our favorite ‘zines, COTE Check will be a lo-fi DIY affair.
Have something you’d like to share with your theatre community? Let us know what’s on your mind by sending a submission to cotesubmissions@gmail.com. We’re seeking submissions of all types, from essays, photos and drawings to notices and listings - get creative! Submission deadline for the Winter ‘09 issue is January 14.
A SOLD-OUT RUN of COTE’s first original full-length, Documentary: A Suicide Narrative
In November 2008, COTE presented a sold-out run of Documentary: A Suicide Narrative, written and directed by COTE co-founder/artistic director Ashley Marinaccio. Thanks so much to everyone who came to enjoy the performance, and very special thanks to the amazing cast and crew! Plans are in the works for another run of this beautiful play, so stay tuned - we’ll let you know of developments as they come.

COTE & ensemble thingNY present Samuel Beckett’s Cascando
On December 18, 2008, COTE joined forces with avant-classical music ensemble thingNY (www.thingny.com) for an evening of experimentation with music and theatre at Chashama on 42nd Street in Manhattan. The musicians of thingNY performed the premiere of a new theatre piece written by COTE, entitled Tip Tip; then, the theatre artists of COTE performed the premiere of a new music piece for tape written by thingNY, entitled Licycle. The two ensembles then united for a live performance of Samuel Beckett’s resounding radio play Cascando.
Many thanks to Paul Pinto, Jeffrey Young, and Andrew Livingston of thingNY for making the evening as amazing as it was, to The Tank and the estate of Samuel Beckett for their support in making it a reality, and to the wonderful audience in attendance!
